What is PubMed?

PubMed is the free public interface to the database MEDLINE, created by the National Library of Medicine (NLM).  MEDLINE is the largest biomedical information database in the world, containing more than 21 million citations published from 1948-present.

Remember to always access PubMed via the Cushwa-Leighton Library's webpages (such as this guide) in order to be connected to articles in journals and databases that Saint Mary's College subscribes to.

Using Filters in PubMed

There are many ways to refine your search results in the PubMed database, including patient age or sex, article type, and publication year. The Filters column is located on the left side of the search results page.

Editing the Filter Column

To show other filter options, click Show additional filters. In the window that pops up, check the box next to each filter category you wish to add to the Filters column, and click Show.
 


 

Filtering a Search

To apply filters to a search, click on each desired filter, one at a time in the Filters column.
